Hinduism

What is the Gita saying?  Does it make an argument for a theory of just wars?  Does it justify senseless violence?  How could it be so central for a pacifist like Gandhi?  (By the way, he used the time he spent brushing his teeth to memorize the Gita, one verse at a time.)  Please contribute some of your thoughts and reactions.  Try to be specific, and give specific text references to clarify and support your observations.
